The Tombs of the Giants are collective burial monuments dating back to the Nuragic Age (3rd millennium BC), later used as ossuaries where the remains of the deceased were placed. Their name derives from a legend according to which giant bones were found inside them. There are about 1,000 of them scattered all over the island and particularly in the central area. Their structure consists of a burial chamber up to 30 metres long and 3 metres high originally covered by a mound and bordered at the front by vertical stones driven into the ground in a semicircle. This structure is likened by many experts to the taurine protome and by others to the female uterus. These structures are believed to be surrounded by a strong natural magnetism due to their position in correspondence with energy channels.
